Imagine the beauty of the Caribbean with a decidedly British touch.

This is Barbados, the western-most island in the Caribbean (actually, it sits

entirely in the Atlantic Ocean), singer Rihanna's home and a wonderful

blend of casual tropical ambiance and gentile manners that are reflected in

all aspects of daily life.  The island is more formal than many others in the

region, with afternoon tea still a part of daily life.  The people who reside on

Barbados are well educated, polite, respectful, friendly and kind.

Barbados offers some of the very best in luxury vacation accommodation

set against the breathtaking backdrop of the sparkling blue waters of the

Atlantic Ocean and white sand beaches.  Despite the island's upscale

reputation, there are villas, condominiums, and cottages to suit every

budget.  Should you manage to tear yourself away from the beach or the

pool of your private villa, take a spin on the tees at the nearby Sandy Lane

Golf Club or Royal Westmoreland or, if you prefer, indulge in some luxury retail therapy at the Limegrove Lifestyle Centre in nearby historic Holetown.

The island's 166 square miles are comprised of 11 'parishes' with names like St. Peter and Christ Church.  The average temperature is in the mid-80s F year 'round, rarely reaching 90 F even during the summer months.

There's plenty to do in Barbados.  Spend a day on a white sandy beach.  Bite into some delicious flying fish on a cutter (roll).  Enjoy a local rum punch.  Visit Earthworks Pottery and learn about making pottery.  Spend a day at the Batik Studio and come home with your own batik designs.  Attend a cricket match.  Duty-free shopping on Bridgetown's Broad Street (30-50% off).  Pelican Village for local handicrafts, batiks, rum cakes, straw bags, paintings, and more.  Join a Party Cruise with snorkeling and lunch aboard the Jolly Roger.  Learn to trade the rush, rush for the slow and easy.  Bajans will teach you how to truly live.

For those visitors who prefer to leave the left-hand driving to a professional, VHR, WORLDWIDE has our own personal drivers for hire.  They can pick you up at/return you to the airport, take you to restaurants and shopping, and are available for an informative island tour.  Very reasonably priced.  Please inquire.

Island Highlights:  A friendly, highly-educated, English-speaking populace; fabulous duty-free shopping; wide variety of Caribbean-inspired and International cuisine; beautiful beaches; interesting sightseeing and activities; flying fish and green monkeys.

Beaches:  Barbados is blessed with over 70 miles of exceptional palm-fringed, white-sand beaches.  The sea offers just about every shade of blue and is truly a delight to behold, even when simply driving around the island - which we highly recommend, especially with one of our private drivers or in a rental car that we can arrange for our guests with a reputable, family-owned company whose partnership we have enjoyed for many, many years.  The island has four very distinct beach 'regions', all of which are located in the Atlantic Ocean:

The West Coast Beaches are where most of our villas, condominiums, and estates are located.  This area is known to have calm water and talcum-soft, pristine white sand - wonderful for swimming, snorkeling (turtles!), and all manner of watersports:  jet skiing, wakeboarding, etc.  This is where you will find the island's most popular scuba diving areas.  Sunsets from the West Coast (a/k/a the Platinum Coast) are nothing less than spectacular over the beautiful, shimmering turquoise water.

The South Coast Beaches are characterized by stretches of white sand bays with small- to medium-size waves, good dive sites, and excellent wind and kite surfing conditions.  The beaches here are generally suitable for swimming.  There are many coral reefs found in shallow water, ideal for snorkeling.  One of the most popular windsurfing spots is in Silver Sands and Silver Rock where many international windsurfing events are held.  We offer a number of lovely accommodations for rent along the South Coast.

The East Coast Beaches of Barbados are wild:  giant, pounding waves make this a professional surfer's paradise - particularly the world-renowned Soup Bowl found in Bathsheba which is a challenge for even the most seasoned surfer.  The dangerous currents and undertow make beaches here not suitable for the average swimmer.   Having said that, the Atlantic coastline on stunningly picturesque and awe-inspiring to watch ... especially from one of our favorite spots, the Atlantis Restaurant, which sits above Bathsheba and is home to - in our opinion - the island's best flying fish sandwiches with an amazing view.

Northern Barbados may not have any notable sandy beaches but the spectacular topography should not be missed.  Weathered cliffs pounded by the Atlantic Ocean swells in numerous small bays, such as River Bay, Maycocks Bay, Cove Bay or Morgan Lewis beaches where swimming is quite safe.  This region presents the avid photographer with a memorable opportunity to capture the essence of Barbados.

Island Challenges:  Driving on the left (you get used to it); narrow roads and poor signage.

"I recently had the vacation of a lifetime.  The travel arrangements made through VHR were amazing.  A week in a condo in Barbados on a magnificent beach (BB508).  The travel was made easy with VHR coordinating a driver for us.  Our driver was professional yet personable and extremely helpful.  He not only drove for us but he told us where to go, what to see, and gave us the history of the island. The condo was everything I could have possibly imagined.  We had a breathtaking view from our balcony of the pools and the ocean.  Each night the sunsets were prettier!  The rooms were spacious and very clean.  The staff made sure all of our needs were met, and the beach ... Magnificent!  I will definitely use VHR for my future trips!"                                                                                                                                                                                                    - Sharon F. 2017

"Lori was once again extremely professional + prompt with our inquiries.  She also found a place that fit our needs and what we were looking for on this trip (to Barbados).  Already have her working on our next trip."           - Robert W. 2018
